In anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup where several games will be played in Seattle, The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and their partners have created the Global Sport Lab.
The Global Sport Lab aims to provide students and the public opportunities to learn about global sport and global connections through the expertise of our faculty, staff, guest speakers and community engagements. For UW students, the Lab will work to support and highlight courses covering a range of regional and disciplinary perspectives on global sport.
The Department of American Ethnic Studies established connections with this project and has three courses, two of which are being offered in Spring 2024, listed on the Global Sport Lab website.
- AES 312: Race and the Radical Imagination (SP 2024) - "Self-Defense and (Auto)Biography"
- AES 335: History of African Americans and Sports
- AES 404: Martial Arts and Social Justice (SP 2024)
